THE PROBLEM
Underserved students in Boston face significant challenges that limit their exposure to and participation in STEM fields:
Lack of Mentorship & Networks
Without professional connections, students miss out on crucial guidance and role models in the STEM field.
Limited Exposure
Many students lack opportunities to explore high-tech industries, making it difficult to imagine a future in STEM.
Financial Barriers
Costs associated with STEM programs, transportation, and resources often prevent access to valuable experiences.
THE NEED
Addressing these barriers is essential because:
STEM Careers Are Growing
STEM jobs are some of the fastest-growing and highest-paying, offering critical pathways for economic mobility.
Diversity is Vital in STEM
A diverse workforce fosters fresh perspectives and innovations crucial to the industries shaping our future.
Breaking Cycles of Inequality
Providing underserved students with STEM opportunities promotes leadership, success, and long-term empowerment.
THE SOLUTION
The STEM Internship Program bridges the gap for underserved students in Boston by offering:
Hands-on Learning Experiences:
Students work on real-world projects and gain technical skills.
Professional Mentorship:
Industry experts guide students, helping them build networks and receive critical support.
Exposure to STEM Careers:
Participants explore a range of careers they may not have otherwise known about, unlocking new aspirations.
"We believe in approaching education holistically in order for it to be sustained during a student's educational journey... This internship program is just a piece of our philanthropic mission to support the next generation of STEM professionals..."
Isaiah Davis, Co-Founder (TNE)
DEVELOP PRACTICAL STEM SKILLS
Students participate in immersive projects, gaining hands-on experience that builds both technical and professional skills.
FOSTER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Students build confidence and prepare for future success through workshops on networking and career development
EXPLORE STEM CAREERS
Students are introduced to different career paths across research, business, and manufacturing functions.
ENSURE ACCESSIBILITY
By covering transportation, meals, and other needs, the program removes financial barriers, ensuring that all students can fully participate.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES
"The Waters STEM Internship Program has been a life-changing experience for our students. Last summer, our interns delivered capstone presentations that moved our executive team to tears... it really highlighted the transformative power of education and exposure..."
