  • Summer Learning Academy: Academic & Athletic Development for Youth

    SUMMER LEARNING ACADEMY CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP The Summer Learning Academy is a free summer program designed to engage and empower students through a blend of academic enrichment, socio-emotional learning, and basketball-based athletic development. Youth experience a structured yet fun environment that includes project-based learning, competitive sports, field trips, and leadership development. Working with active Boston Public School teachers and staff, students receive hands-on guidance, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities aimed at closing the opportunity gap and combating summer learning loss. Our greatest impact comes from the year-round engagement our staff members have with participants, whether through direct instruction, extracurricular activities, or school involvement. This consistent connection allows us to build deeper relationships, enabling us to make a stronger and more meaningful impact. It is this level of engagement that sets us apart from other summer programs. ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES Including field trips and recreational activities that broaden students' experiences and interests. Art enrichment, aviation, and the exploration of new subjects through summer partnerships; Visits to theaters, Canobie Lake Park, and community landmarks ACTIVITIES PROJECT-BASED LEARNING Engaging students in hands-on, real-world projects that promote critical thinking and problem-solving. Life skills and financial literacy ACTIVITIES LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Offering opportunities for students to cultivate leadership skills through projects and activities. Team-building exercises and adventure-based learning with Alnoba's Pinnacle Youth Leadership program ACTIVITIES ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT Utilizing basketball and other sports to teach teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness. Competitive and recreational sports, including basketball instruction ACTIVITIES ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT Providing instruction in core subjects like math and reading to combat summer learning loss and enhance academic skills. Academic support with a focus in Math and English Language Arts (ELA) instruction ACTIVITIES SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING Developing students’ emotional intelligence, resilience, and self-confidence through workshops and mentorship.   • BPS Collegiate Showcase | Team New England Youth Academy

    BPS COLLEGIATE SHOWCASE The Boston Public School Collegiate Showcase provides a platform for prospective student-athletes to gain exposure and access to local and regional college basketball coaches and programs. Athletes have the opportunity to compete against other athletes and showcase their skills in front of different college coaches from the NJCAA, NCAA Division II and Division III levels, at the same time. Focused on the 2024 senior class and 2025 junior class, the event integrates competition with instructional training and recruitment education. This includes sessions focused on skill level, athletic performance, and competitive play, followed by a coaches panel discussion and Q and A segment. Additionally, a college admissions fair featuring representatives from various schools is held throughout the event. The event serves as a valuable avenue for those serious about playing basketball at the college level, offering personal insights into what coaches seek in recruits. Evaluation and Instruction Players are evaluated by college coaches through instructive group stations, simulated combine testing and scrimmages. Scrimmages Players are divided into teams and coached by various top coaches from New England. College Fair Admissions representatives from different schools are present to answer questions and meet prospective students and families. Coaches Panel The coaches' panel is open to all players and their families, covering topics related to the college experience, the NCAA recruiting process, academic eligibility rules, and other relevant subjects. It includes an open Q&A session for parents and players to directly interact with coaches and gather information. SCHOOLS IN ATTENDANCE

    STEM INTERNSHIP WATERS STUDENT ACADEMY Launched in 2021, in partnership with Waters Corporation, the Waters Student Academy STEM Internship Program provides high school students from Boston the opportunity to gain real-world STEM experience at Waters' global headquarters in Milford, MA. Over the course of six weeks, students engage in immersive projects, learn from expert mentors, and explore diverse STEM careers.
